None of the following is our own view on any stock — it is a same-day record of market action, analyst-firm calls and company news across the tracked universe on Friday, October 2, 2026.

U.S. stocks finished the week higher after a soft jobs report pulled rate-hike expectations down further. The S&P 500 gained 0.74% to 7,723.49, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.49% to 51,176.96 and the Nasdaq 100 added 1.0% to 30,807.93. The economy created only 29,000 nonfarm jobs in September, well short of the roughly 84,000 economists had expected; private employers added 46,000 while government payrolls shrank by 17,000, and the July and August figures were revised down by a combined 60,000. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2% from 4.1%, or to 4.18% from 4.14% before rounding. Futures pricing for a quarter-point increase at the Federal Reserve's October 28 meeting slipped to about 22.7% from 24.4% on Thursday and 64.2% a week earlier, briefly dropping below 20% during the session. Brent crude edged up about 0.5% to near $103 a barrel even after Group of Seven countries agreed to release up to 100 million barrels of oil over four months.

Consumer discretionary led the sectors with a 1.38% gain, while healthcare was the weakest group, slipping 0.03% as money rotated out of defensive names. Tesla (TSLA) carried the discretionary group, climbing 4.65% to $370.59 after reporting 486,532 third-quarter deliveries, comfortably above the roughly 461,000 analysts had expected; its consensus is a Moderate Buy from 25 analysts with a $391.40 average target, about 5.6% above the closing price. Cruise lines also rallied after Carnival (CCL) beat earnings expectations, pulling Norwegian Cruise Line (NCLH) and Royal Caribbean (RCL) higher with it; all three are outside the tracked universe. Carnival's consensus average target is $34.16, set by 20 analysts.

In technology, Nvidia (NVDA) rose about 1.3% and touched a new all-time high of $237.88, days after the company added a record $150 billion to its share-repurchase program; its consensus average target from 31 analysts is $324.32. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) gained about 3%, Apple (AAPL) about 1% and Meta Platforms (META) 0.3%. BNP Paribas kept a Buy rating and an $885 target on Meta after its Muse AI agent passed 5.6 million downloads since its September launch and held the top spot on Apple's App Store, while noting that turning early interest into lasting use and revenue is still the open question; Meta's consensus is a Strong Buy with an $800.90 average target. Alphabet (GOOGL) raised the price of its budget Pixel phone by $100 to $599, citing higher memory costs. Micron (MU) gave back about 2% after its post-earnings advance, and Intel (INTC) slipped about 0.6%.

Data-storage makers were the day's sharpest decliners. Western Digital (WDC) and Seagate (STX), both outside the tracked universe, each fell about 10% after reports that Toshiba plans to spend roughly $380 million to double its hard-disk-drive capacity in the Philippines for AI data centers. Toshiba holds about 10% of the market, against more than 40% each for the two U.S. makers. Morgan Stanley (MS) called the selloff a knee-jerk reaction, arguing that the supply shortfall through 2028 exceeds anything Toshiba's added output could fill and that the Japanese company lacks the newest heat-assisted recording technology; the firm kept Buy ratings on both. Both stocks carry a Strong Buy consensus, with Western Digital's $657.88 average target implying about 58% upside.

Nike (NKE) fell 3.64% to $33.87, its lowest level in more than a decade, after a fiscal first quarter in which revenue declined 4% to $11.21 billion, below the $11.32 billion expected, and a forecast for a high-single-digit revenue drop in fiscal 2027. Goldman Sachs (GS) and Citi both trimmed their targets while keeping Hold ratings, and Williams downgraded the stock, while Freedom Broker moved the other way, upgrading Nike to Buy from Hold after the selloff. Management said the $0.41 quarterly dividend, now yielding close to 5% and raised for 24 straight years, is safe for now as the company restructures. Nike's consensus is a Hold from 32 analysts with a $37.11 average target. Ford (F) fell 1.39% after third-quarter U.S. sales dropped 6.6% to 507,395 vehicles, narrowly keeping it ahead of Hyundai for third place; its consensus is a Moderate Buy with a $16.29 average target.

Among other company news, Boeing (BA) rose 0.67% after its engineers' union, SPEEA, signed the improved contract offer, averting what would have been a third strike in three years; Boeing's consensus is a Strong Buy with a $272 average target. GameStop (GME) gained 2.45% after filings showed chief executive Ryan Cohen bought 450,000 shares for about $10.6 million on September 29, his third large purchase in less than a month, lifting his stake to just over 40.9 million shares. UBS kept a Buy rating and a $120 target on CoreWeave (CRWV), outside the tracked universe, noting that the company raised its GPU rental prices by 25% in July and another 10% since. Paramount Skydance (PSKY) said DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran will stay in their roles ahead of its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), both outside the tracked universe, and late Thursday Nasdaq said Moderna (MRNA) will replace Warner Bros. Discovery in the Nasdaq-100 before the open on October 9. As always: a price target is one firm's estimate rather than a forecast of what a stock will do, a single jobs report can be revised substantially, and none of this is a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
