None of the following is our own view on any stock — it is a same-day record of market action, analyst-firm calls and company news across the tracked universe on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

U.S. stocks slipped from Tuesday's record as technology and industrial shares sold off and long-dated Treasury yields stayed at multi-decade highs. The S&P 500 fell about 0.2% to 7,801.15, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost about 0.7% to 51,179.87 and the Nasdaq 100 eased about 0.2% to 31,160.08. The 10-year and 30-year yields edged higher on the day but came off their morning highs after the Treasury's $39 billion 10-year note auction drew strong demand. Minutes of the Federal Reserve's September meeting showed that all 19 officials backed the quarter-point rate increase and that most participants supported another hike before the end of the year. Brent crude was little changed even though there have been nine attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz so far this month, against 18 in all of September, and Saudi Arabia said two of its airports were damaged by the Iran-backed Houthi group. President Trump said he is considering suspending the federal gasoline tax of 18.4 cents a gallon ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

Healthcare led the sectors with a 1.06% gain as investors favored defensive groups. Moderna (MRNA) rose about 4.8% to $196.48, recovering part of Tuesday's slide, and is due to rejoin the Nasdaq 100 on October 9 after being removed from the index in late 2024; the stock has swung sharply in recent days as investors weigh reports of a plague death in Russia. CVS Health (CVS), Eli Lilly (LLY) and Amgen (AMGN) were also among the sector's leaders, along with ResMed, which is outside the tracked universe.

Industrials were the weakest sector, down 2.14%. Caterpillar (CAT) had the group's largest decline after a research-firm downgrade to Hold from Strong Buy, and the Federal Trade Commission said it had opened a public inquiry into anticompetitive practices in the farm-equipment industry. Emcor, Allegion, Comfort Systems USA and United Rentals, all outside the tracked universe, also fell, as did Curtiss-Wright, also untracked, which dropped about 8%. Stocks tied to the AI data-center buildout were sold more broadly, and CrowdStrike (CRWD) and Texas Instruments (TXN) both closed sharply lower.

In analyst calls, Spotify (SPOT) gained about 5.1% to $512.92 after Bank of America reiterated a Buy rating and a $685 target, arguing that fears of disruption from Meta's (META) Muse AI agent, launched on September 8, are overblown; the shares had fallen about 13% from their mid-September peak. Spotify's consensus is a Strong Buy from 24 analysts, made up of 19 Buy and five Hold ratings, with a $607.14 average target. Wells Fargo raised its target on Marvell Technology, outside the tracked universe, to $365 from $310, although the stock closed lower after Tuesday's rally and remains up more than 200% this year. Micron (MU) rose about 4.1%.

Wells Fargo (WFC) fell about 1.6% on reports that the Department of Housing and Urban Development is examining whether the bank's programs to expand Black homeownership violated fair-lending laws. The department's letter to chief executive Charlie Scharf concerns an initiative dating to 2017, when the bank committed $60 billion of loans to help at least 250,000 Black homeowners by 2027, and Housing Secretary Scott Turner said similar programs at other banks are under review. Wells Fargo's consensus is a Moderate Buy from 18 analysts, with 12 Buy and six Hold ratings and a $98.90 average target.

In technology, Microsoft (MSFT) announced an AI personal computer with a built-in desktop coding agent, powered by Nvidia's (NVDA) RTX Spark chips; Microsoft was little changed and Nvidia slipped about 0.8%. Intel (INTC) rose about 0.5%, while Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) fell about 2.1%. IREN, outside the tracked universe, dropped about 6.3% after research firm SemiAnalysis described reliability problems, including multi-day power outages, at its data centers in Prince George and Mackenzie, British Columbia, while taking a more favorable view of its Texas campuses; IREN's consensus is a Moderate Buy from 11 analysts with a $79.30 average target.

Among other company news, Webull, outside the tracked universe, plunged about 19% to $5.89 after the House Select Committee on China raised national-security concerns about the brokerage's ownership, technical workforce and data flows; the company said the report contains significant inaccuracies and that U.S. customer data is stored domestically. Walmart (WMT) rose about 0.9% after extending its Express Pickup service through the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, Amazon (AMZN) gained about 1.4% and Target (TGT) fell about 2.2%. Ford (F) slipped about 1.3% and Boeing (BA) and Nike (NKE) each lost less than 1%. Skydance, outside the tracked universe, fell about 6.7%. On the day's wider gainers list, Bending Spoons climbed about 24% and Penguin Solutions about 13%, while Hess Midstream fell about 15%; all three are outside the tracked universe. As always: a price target is one firm's estimate rather than a forecast of what a stock will do, a reported investigation is not a finding of wrongdoing, and none of this is a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
