None of the following is our own view on any stock — it is a same-day record of market action, analyst-firm calls and company news across the tracked universe on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
U.S. stocks finished mixed as falling Treasury yields offset a hotter-than-expected wholesale inflation report. The S&P 500 gained about 0.33% to 7,744.09 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose about 1.08% to 52,177.69, while the Nasdaq 100 slipped about 0.05% to 29,935.59. The Producer Price Index rose 1.3% in September, the fastest monthly pace since March 2022 and more than double the 0.6% economists expected, and the annual rate reached 6.3% against a 5.4% forecast. Core prices, which exclude food and energy, rose 0.7% on the month and 5.0% on the year, versus forecasts of 0.3% and 4.4%. Energy drove more than 80% of the rise in goods prices, with the final-demand energy index up 10.8%, its largest jump since records began in December 2009. Even so, the 10-year Treasury yield fell about 10 basis points to roughly 5.08%, and market-implied odds of a quarter-point Fed hike at the October 28 meeting eased to 27.1% from 33.2% a day earlier. Brent crude held near $106 a barrel, with two cargo ships near the Strait of Hormuz reported struck by unknown projectiles.
Investors rotated out of technology and into defensive areas. Healthcare was the best-performing S&P 500 sector, up about 1.84%, while energy was the weakest, down about 1.55% as the U.S. was reported to be weighing easier sanctions on shadow-fleet tankers that could free up more oil shipments. Moderna (MRNA) led the healthcare group, rising about 4.5% after Goldman Sachs raised its price target to $137 from $120. Moderna and Merck (MRK) will present detailed Phase 3 results for their personalized melanoma vaccine in Madrid on October 24, with an investor webcast the same day; the 1,137-patient trial has already met its main goal of reducing recurrence, but the size of the benefit has not yet been disclosed. Moderna carries a Hold consensus from three Buy, 14 Hold and three Sell ratings. Eli Lilly (LLY) also finished among the sector's gainers.
Chip and AI-related shares stayed under pressure on worries about heavy AI spending and funding costs, including CoreWeave's rising debt. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) was the weakest of the Nasdaq 100's ten largest holdings, Nvidia (NVDA) fell about 1.8%, and concern over competition from Chinese memory makers weighed on Micron (MU). Intel (INTC) fell about 2.8% after Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM, down about 1.7%) signaled it was ready to supply advanced packaging if Intel's own capacity expansion proved insufficient; Intel's consensus is Hold, from six Buy, 22 Hold and two Sell ratings. Microsoft (MSFT) traded higher after several analysts lifted price targets ahead of its October 28 earnings report, citing expected Azure growth.
Defensive and consumer names found buyers. Nike (NKE) jumped more than 6% to about $38 as investors looked for cheaper shares outside tech; the stock is still down roughly 40% this year after a first-quarter sales decline of 4% to $11.2 billion, and its consensus is Hold from eight Buy, 18 Hold and eight Sell ratings. Walmart (WMT) rose about 1.5% after Deutsche Bank published a bullish note describing it as a safe haven during the AI-trade selloff. The National Retail Federation forecast stronger November and December holiday sales, a backdrop that also touched Amazon (AMZN) and Costco (COST).
Rate-sensitive housing shares rebounded as yields fell: Opendoor jumped about 16.5% and Zillow about 11%, while TeraWulf rose about 9% after Morgan Stanley reiterated an Overweight rating and a $65 price target; all three are outside our tracked universe. On the downside, Rocket Lab (RKLB) tumbled more than 10%, and FMC (outside our tracked universe) fell about 30% after Seaport Research downgraded it to Neutral from Buy. Among other rating changes, Freedom Broker upgraded JPMorgan (JPM) to Buy from Hold. Tesla (TSLA) was set to unveil its long-delayed Roadster that evening.
As always: a price target is one firm's estimate rather than a forecast of what a stock will do, a single upgrade or downgrade can differ sharply from the consensus, and none of this is a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
