None of the following is our own view on any stock — it is a same-day record of market action, analyst-firm calls and company news across the tracked universe on Friday, October 16, 2026.
U.S. stocks sold off sharply as technology led the market lower and oil climbed. The S&P 500 fell about 1.1%, the Nasdaq 100 dropped about 2.5% to 29,187.55 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped about 0.34% to 52,002.41. Energy was the only strong sector, gaining about 2.47%, while communication services lagged with a loss of about 2.54%. Brent crude rose roughly 3.4% to about $109 a barrel as Iran stepped up attacks on vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, and reports said the U.S. was preparing to resume military strikes. Investors pointed to worries about heavy AI spending, stretched valuations and Treasury yields near multi-decade highs.
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh declined to signal what the central bank will do at its October 28 meeting, saying at an International Monetary Fund event in Bangkok that he does not prejudge meetings. Traders read the silence as dovish: the market-implied chance of a quarter-point hike fell to 17.2% from 27.7% a day earlier, according to the CME FedWatch tool.
The AI trade was the main source of pressure. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Micron (MU), Intel (INTC) and Palantir (PLTR) all closed deep in the red. Micron lost about 5.5% as investors weighed progress announced by Chinese memory maker ChangXin Memory Technologies, though analysts noted that its ability to produce the chips commercially is still unproven. Micron's most recent quarterly revenue was $54.23 billion, and it guided to $60 billion to $63 billion for the next quarter; its consensus is Strong Buy from 27 Buy and one Hold rating. Outside our tracked universe, CoreWeave (CRWV) fell about 12% and was down roughly 25% on the week as its bond yields reached the 15%–16% range on debt worries; its consensus is Moderate Buy from 20 Buy, five Hold and two Sell ratings. Nebius and Strategy also dropped more than 10%.
Tesla (TSLA) fell about 3.3% even though it showed its new Roadster on Thursday evening, including a stunt version that briefly flew; that version is offered only to invited customers, and the stock is down about 7.9% over five days. Its consensus is Moderate Buy from 14 Buy, 11 Hold and two Sell ratings. Apple (AAPL) barely moved at about $343 as preorders for its iPhone Duo reportedly sold out within minutes and delivery times slipped to late January; UBS has voiced concern about possible weaker iPhone demand. Among analyst moves, Yorkville Ives analyst Dan Ives reiterated a $300 price target on Nvidia (NVDA), and RBC Capital raised its Shopify price target to $200 from $180 ahead of the company's November 3 earnings report; Shopify is outside our tracked universe.
Energy and defensive shares held up. Morgan Stanley raised its Diamondback Energy price target to $222 from $216, and the stock led the S&P 500 with a year-to-date gain of about 34%; Diamondback, Targa Resources, EOG Resources and Kinder Morgan are outside our tracked universe. Roth Capital upgraded Occidental (OXY) to Buy from Neutral, citing oil upside and free cash flow. Coca-Cola (KO) and JPMorgan (JPM) rose as money moved toward blue-chip names. Meta (META), Netflix (NFLX) and Alphabet (GOOGL) lagged in communication services, and BNP Paribas said Meta still has to show it can earn money from its Muse AI assistant, which has passed 10.4 million downloads. Tesla, Meta and Netflix report earnings next week, and IBM reports on October 21.
As always: a price target is one firm's estimate rather than a forecast of what a stock will do, a single upgrade or downgrade can differ sharply from the consensus, and none of this is a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
